Abstract:

Recently Fabry-Perot (FP) resonator structures for enhancing directivity have found wide use in antenna design. FP Resonator antenna generally consists of primary radiator backed with a metal ground plane AND a PARTIALLY REFLECTIVE SURFACE (PRS). In this paper METAMATERIAL UNIT CELLs is utilized as PRS in FP cavity for increasing microstrip antenna directivity. As a novel design an array of Omega UNIT CELLs is proposed AND designed. FP antenna performance with Omega cover AND superstrate of patch AND SRR is simulated AND compared. For validation of purposes, the antenna is designed AND simulated through using of two different 3D full-wave electromagnetic simulation tools; CST Microwave Studio AND Ansoft’s High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS).

Abstract:

Seawalls are commonly constructed to prevent lANDward erosion of the shoreline AND to maintain the configuration of the area behind them against wave action. In order to consider the effect of seawalls on surf zone hydrodynamics, experiments have been performed at laboratory model scale on PARTIALLY REFLECTIVE seawalls located in the surf zone. The main objectives of these experiments were to undertake a quantitative comparison of near-bed velocities in two cases (i.e. with AND without the REFLECTIVE structure). The presence of a REFLECTIVE structure AND the influence of reflected waves result in significant changes in the mean flow AND the near-bed horizontal velocities in the surf zone. The latter is illustrated by comparing the probabilistic properties of velocities measured with AND without a REFLECTIVE structure. In this paper, a semi-empirical approach based on the measured probability density functions of near-bed horizontal velocities, is presented to predict the short-term response of a PARTIALLY REFLECTIVE seawall to rANDom wave attack. The results obtained from the model AND comparison with the experimental results, which have been reported previously are promising AND encouraging for further developments of the preliminary model.

Abstract:

Facilities built in areas affected by earthquake activity, such as tunnels, which have always been an integral part of human life, must withstAND both dynamic AND static loading. It has led to the need for practical studies on the effects of earthquakes on underground structures AND the factors affecting their destruction. For this purpose, in this research, at first different patterns of tunnel’s excavation were investigated AND by using Plaxis 2D software AND based on Tabas earthquake in Iran, sensitivity analysis on geotechnical parameters of the soil surrounding tunnel such as cohesion, friction angle, UNIT weight AND modulus of elasticity was carried out, AND the parameters whose changes have the greatest AND least effects on the bending moment changes on the tunnel lining are introduced. The results show that tunnel excavation patterns significantly affect the bending moment, axial forces, displacements, AND SURFACE settlement of the tunnel. Often, by dividing tunnel excavation area to small parts, the values of bending moment, axial forces, displacements, AND SURFACE settlement of the tunnel decreases in static analysis. Also, outputs of sensitivity analysis on geotechnical parameters of the soil surrounding tunnel showed that modulus of elasticity of the soil surrounding tunnel has the most effect AND cohesion changes have the least effect on bending moment induced on tunnel lining..

Abstract:

Purpose: To develop a guideline for the treatment of incompletely removed histopathologically documented ocular SURFACE neoplasia (OSSN) with mitomycin C (MMC).Materials & Methods: Through an interventional case series, 17 eyes of 17 patients presented with incompletely removed OSSN were treated according to a protocol using 2-3 alternate 7-day courses of MMC 0.04%. Clinical recurrence was re-treated with the same protocol. All patients had weekly follow up visits to the end of treatment course, then biweekly visits for 3 months, AND monthly visits thereafter. Results: Four patients (23.5%) experienced recurrence after the initial treatment, 3 of them responded to re-treatment AND were disease-free till the end of follow up. All patients reported mild to moderate redness AND irritation which was controlled with lubricants AND mild corticosteroid eye drops. No serious ocular or systemic side effects were observed. Conclusion: MMC drop 0.04% used as 2-3 alternate seven-day courses is a safe AND effective treatment for OSSN. Attempting more than 2 courses of treatment (up to 4) in the initial regimen may result in lower recurrence rates.

Abstract:

Leptospirosis is a common disease between humans AND animals that can survive in swimming pools, rivers, SURFACE waters, moist soils, swamps, AND hot weather. Leptospirosis can be transmitted to humans directly through contact with the urine of most rodents (rats, foxes, raccoons, etc.) by scratches or minor injuries, or indirectly through contaminated water AND soil. Considering that the cultivation AND growth of this bacterium is time-consuming, the use of SURFACE plasmon resonance sensors using METAMATERIAL structure is a suitable method for rapid diagnosis of this disease. Ordinary, leptospirosis bacteria can be detected by urine. In this article, we apply five rodent urine samples as the sensing material in the designed biosensor. In the proposed structure, gold metal has been chosen as a plasmonic metal due to its resistant against air oxidation. To check the sensitivity of this device AND the results, we find absorption curves AND analyze them in terms of sensitivity, detection accuracy, AND quality factor. The results show that this sensor can detect leptospirosis bacteria with a sensitivity of 1315nm/RIU AND a figure of merit (FOM) of 63RIU-1.

Background: This study was conducted to determine the treatment outcome of incompletely removed, histopathologically documented ocular SURFACE squamous neoplasia with mitomycin-C. Methods: Through an interventional case series, 17 eyes of 17 patients presented with incompletely removed ocular SURFACE squamous neoplasia were treated according to a protocol using two to three alternate seven-day courses of 0.04% mitomycin-C. Clinical recurrence was retreated with the same protocol. All patients had weekly follow-up visits to the end of the treatment course, then biweekly visits for three months, AND monthly visits, thereafter. Results: The mean±SD follow-up period was 30.76±4.4 (range: 24.5 – 41) months. Five patients (29.4%) experienced recurrence after the initial treatment; four of them responded to retreatment AND were disease-free till the end of follow-up. Survival analysis with Kaplan-Meier method was performed. Taking into account four recurrences, the 41-month nonrecurrence rate was 70.6%. However, including four of five patients with recurrence who responded to retreatment, the final outcome in survival analysis was 94.1% nonrecurrence for 41 months of follow-up.All patients reported mild to moderate redness AND irritation which were controlled with lubricants AND mild corticosteroid eye drops. No serious ocular or systemic side effects were observed. Conclusion: Point zero four percent (0.04%) mitomycin-C drop used as two to three alternate seven-day courses seems to be a safe AND effective treatment for ocular SURFACE squamous neoplasia.

Abstract:

Considering the adverse effects of storage insect pests AND their resistance to chemical insecticides, identifying safe, cost-effective, AND durable methods to control AND reduce storage pest-induced damage appears essential. Utilizing diatomaceous earth is one alternative to chemical pesticides for controlling stored-product insect pests. This study evaluated the insecticidal activity of diatomaceous earth at a concentration of 0.2 mg/cm2 against two stored-products insect pests, Rhyzopertha dominica F. AND Tribolium confusum Jacqulin Duval, on concrete, mosaic, AND galvanized steel SURFACEs. To this end, the SURFACEs were treated with different diatomaceous earth formulations, including a commercial formulation, SilicoSec®, an Iranian formulation, Dryasil, Dryasil + 0.05% Mentha longifolia L. extract, AND talcum powder + 0.05% M. longifolia extract. Mortality was measured 1, 3, 5, AND 7 days after treatment. The experiment was conducted at 27 ± 1 °C, 60 ± 5% relative humidity, AND dark conditions. The experiments were performed in nine replications (10 adults in each replication). The mortality percentage of R. dominica 7 days after treatment with Silicosec®, Dryasil alone, Dryasil + 0.05% M. longifolia extract, AND talcum powder + 0.05% M. longifolia extract on galvanized steel were 43.33, 54.44, 33.33, AND 25.55%, respectively. The results indicated that the mortality percentage of T. confusum on galvanized steel was 35.55, 45.55, 26.66, AND 23.33%, respectively. The mortality of T. confusum was lower than that of R. dominica adults. Results indicated that the insecticidal effect of diatomaceous earth increased over time. Diatomaceous earth alone had a more significant insecticidal effect than combining them with M. longifolia extract. The highest percentage of mortality in all treatments was found on the galvanized steel, mosaic, followed by concrete SURFACEs, respectively. Therefore, Dryasil formulation can be used to control stored-products pests in grain silos, although its insecticidal efficacy varies based on SURFACE type

Abstract:

Using METAMATERIALs on the top of the antenna’ s accordance to magneto-dielectric superstrate AND near zero refraction index theories causes improvement of radiation efficiency AND gain of antennas. In this article, two novel METAMATERIAL UNIT CELLs are proposed for gain AND bANDwidth improvement of Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (CDRA). The first METAMATERIAL UNIT CELL is a negative magnetic structure including two rings implemented on both sides of RT/doroid 5880 substrate with dielectric constant of 2. 2. Besides, the second METAMATERIAL UNIT CELL is a Double Negative Structure (DNG) realized consisting of two rings printed in one side AND a thin wire in other side of RT/doroid 5880 substrate. Two 7 7 arrays of proposed UNIT CELLs are considered AND used as superstrate layers on the top of a CDRA. Also, the CDRA is made of RT/doroid 6010 material with dielectric constant of 10. 2 working at the frequency of 10 GHz. Using proposed METAMATERIAL structures as superstrate layers on the top of the CDRA causes gain AND bANDwidth improvement up to 3. 3 dB AND 4. 8%, respectively. CDRA in the presence of proposed METAMATERIAL superstrates are analyzed using a 3D full-wave simulator.
